48% of people with severely reduced kidney function and not on dialysis are not even aware of having Chronic Kidney Disease.
Dialysis is a type of treatment that helps your body remove extra fluid and waste products from your blood when the kidneys are not able to. Treatments at a dialysis center take 3-5 hours, 3x a week. These treatments partially replace the filtering function of your kidneys. If you dialyze at home, your treatments are generally shorter but more frequent, 5-7x per week. Your food and fluid intake is restricted. Close monitoring of fluids and nutrition is essential.
Assistance, Dental Assistance, and Scholarship Funds
The Legacy Committee provides oversight to the offering of financial assistance to individuals with CKD who meet eligibility requirements. This assistance is available in the form of short-term funding for housing, transportation and utilities. Dental assistance for emergency care or dentures is also provided. Scholarships are available to individuals with CKD who must transform their lives due to their health condition or treatment such as dialysis, and to healthcare providers who want to increase their education levels and serve the CKD population.
